Temperature

Hello!

For maths we have been learning about Temperature. We have been learning the difference between negative numbers and positive numbers. We had to make a DLO that would show that we understood what we were doing and that we knew what negative numbers and positive numbers meant. I made my DLO on a canva poster. I put in what negative numbers are and what the difference between both of the numbers.

There was a temperature quest that we had to do and it helped me to know what I needed to know.  There was also a slideshow explaining what negative numbers are and what positive numbers are. There was some activies and questions that we could do to. So that helped me.

Here is my poster:

Constructing Media and Evaluating Media

 Kia Ora!

For Cybersmart we are learning about media. One of the tasks was to make a DLO, making it look like a site that someone has clicked on. You have to make it look real, and you could pick an event on what to write about. It is a news article. In this news article you had to include all the things that you normally see while clicking on different sites, Including Titles, The link they clicked, Click bait, Ads and a date for proof that it is real. We also needed a name for the site.

The topic that I wrote about was camp. I couldn't find any pictures so I just used some off of google. There also had to be some things that were related to the search,  and you had to put who wrote the news articles.

The other task that had to be done was to make a google drawing on faek news. So basically you would make a article that had fake news in it and you had to include an URL that was not real. Your fake news could be anything you wanted, my fake news was a cat talking and a girl allergic to boys.

Here is my work:

Maori Language Week

Morena!
It was Maori Language Week last week! We had a task (room 6) for the Maori Language week. We had to make a DLO and teach others something about Maori. I chose to teach the alphabet, but its not really teaching it's kind of like showing you guys what letters are in the Maori Alphabet.

I wrote the alphabet in Maori and then in english so that people would understand. At the end of the book I put a link in that leads to someone elses DLO so that you could see what they are doing. I used Book Creator to make this. This was really fun to do and it was not that hard.

Sacraments

Malo e lelei!

For RE we have been learning about the different Sacraments. Sacraments of Initiation, Sacraments of Healing and Sacraments of Commitment. We had different tasks for each of these Sacraments. The Sacraments of Healing were Reconcilitiation and Anointing of the Sick. The Sacraments of Initiation are Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. The Sacraments of Commitment are Marrige and Holy Orders.

For each topic there were different tasks. The task for the Sacraments of Initiation was to make a DLO teaching others about the sacraments of intiation. The task for the sacraments of the healing was to make a picture or drawing that shows us the grace we get through each of these sacraments.  The last task for the sacraments of commitment was to write how through taking out the responsibility in vocations, and how priest and ministers are an example, bishops and things like that.

Here are my posters:

Holy orders is a sacrament that you have to be responsible for. It is when you are becoming a Priest. Being a priest is not easy, you have to make sure that what you say and do are easy for the people watching and listening to understand. You also have to be responsible for your actions even when no one is watching.

Once you have commited to something you take responsibility for what you have commited to. Commiting to something is like saying that you are going to do something, so you will get it done. Priests and Ministers commit to being what they are, and they do not fall back and give up. Holy Orders and Marriage are things that you commit to.

I put the words from the newspaper in here because it wouldn't let me post it.

Changing Improper Fractions into Mixed Numbers.

 Kia Ora!

Hi guys! In class our teacher made a slideshow that had a lot of things we could learn. The slideshow was a really cool slide and it was fun to go through. The things that were in the slide that we could learn were Ordering Decimals, Converting between fractions, decimals and percentages, Order fractions, and Converting Fractions into mixed numbers.

The reason we were going through these and learning, it was because we were to make a DLO of the strategy that we had learnt. Our task was to make a DLO about the startegy we learnt and explain all about the startegy. This was hard to do but also fun, and I enjoyed it.

Here is my DLO:

Scratch Shapes

 Kia ora! Hi guys!

Today our class (Room 6) and Room 5,  have been busy all morning because we had to join these meetings (hangouts) to understand how these different tools on our chromebooks work. There were different schools from the Uru Manuka that were presenting each of these tools that we could use.

These meetings were all going on at different times because people were joining different hangouts and there were a lot of different schools and people that joined these meetings. My camera would not work so it was turned off for all of the sessions. These tools could help us in the future so this is why we were learning how to use them.

One of the meetings that I really liked was the Scratch Shapes because they explained it very well and they moved on a quick paste but you could also keep up too. Scratch Shapes was my favourite because it was explained really good and I learned something.

Thank You!

Pope Inquiry

 Kia Ora!

In class we have been doing these Key Idea tasks. For Key Idea 6, the task was to make an Pope Inquiry. There were different things that we could choose. Like Important events in the life of Pope Francis, Popes of the 21st Century, The Pope’s Home - The Vatican, An Encyclical written by the Pope, or Pick your own topic. I chose to do the Important events in the life of Pope Francis.

For this task that I chose, I had to search the important events that happened in Pope Francis' life and ask a question of what the events were. With the questions we had, we had to answer them.

With the second question you had to ask why/how these events were happening. I chose why these events were happening and answered them.

On the last slide I asked a question that can be debatable. I asked some friends the question and they gave me their anwers. I wrote their answers down.

Here is my Inquiry:

Koru's

Kia Ora! In class for topic we have been researching about Koru's. We have been gathering this information and putting it all together.

Here is what I found:

Koru's are used to represent creations because of the way it was shaped in a circular way. The Koru design is also used for decorations, it could be used for tatoos, Maori Art and carvings. The Word 'Koru' means 'Loop' in english. It represents new life and growth, it means strength and peace. Many people believe that Koru means to have a fresh start and new life. Koru's are a symbol to new life, growth and strength.

Kowhaiwhai patterns are used to help tell a story. Kowhaiwhai patterns can sometimes be seen in a Marae, including Korus. The colours on a kowhaiwhai are Red, White and Black.

Venn Diagram

Kia Ora!

Today I'm going to tell you about the work that we have been learning. This term our topic is based on pirates. So we have searched about the different jobs of piracy.  Then we had to make our own Venn Diagram, we had to put some jobs of the pirates in the Land section and some on the Sea. But when you think it's both, put it in the middle! For example, the job Captain is like a Land and Sea job, you put it in the both section!

If you were a Pirate, what job would you be?

I think I would be a Boatswain. I want to be a Boatswain because I get respected and I get fed well.
Here is my Venn Diagram!

Cipher Wheel

Kia Ora!

In class we have been learning about the cipher wheel. We have been learning how to code and how to figure out the secret message. This is related to our topic which is pirates!

We had sites that we could go on and learn about the cipher wheel and how it works. Then we created our own cipher wheel. In the cipher wheel the letters JQ are not supposed to be on the cipher wheel with all the other letters so we had to leave them out. Then we wrote 1-24 on the cipher wheel too.

We used the cipher wheels to find our crunchie bars that we hid from our buddies. We had to create a secret message for our buddy to go and find their chocolate. After we have done that we give the code to our buddy and they had to try and figure the code out to get their chocolate.

It was kind of fun to do and kind of hard because some of us were still in the class writing down our secret message and some of us were already running around outside looking for our chocolates.

Some people didn't get to get the chocolate and go hide it or find it because there wasn't enough time but its ok because at the end of the day they got their chocolate.

The picture is blury kind of because we had to take these on our chromebooks.

Matariki

Kia Ora!
In class we have been learning about matariki. We had 4 reading sites that we had to read and learn about matariki. Our task was to make a DLO and teach others about matariki and to compare the 4 sites to our DLO. We did this independently.

I made a powtoon and put in some information about matariki. The powtoon I made doesnt have any sound to it, but its ok! ;) Heres the link: Powtoon

Mahinga Kai

Kia Ora!

This week for our reading tasks in class, we have been learning about Mahinga Kai and Poha. Each of the 4 reading groups have different books to read and different topics. 2 groups read about Mahinga Kai, and the 2 other groups read about Poha. I read about Mahinga Kai.

Mahinga Kai is food that you can find around you, Lake, Forest, and anywhere with animals but Mahinga Kai is mostly from the sea. Mahinga Kai is food like some fish in the ocean. If the water keeps getting polluted there will be no more Mahinga Kai so we have to make sure that we do our part and keep the environment in a good state.

Here is a slideshow that I made:

The Holy Spirit

There is a picture that represents the holy spirit. It is of a family or birds and they are all taking care of each other. I can be the image of the holy spirit by taking care of others and caring for them, and making them feel like they are safe and not in any danger. I can also be that image for others in their lives by being a good friend and making sure they are ok.

The picture of the birds where the mother was feeding the baby birds shows the holy spirit by that mother bird being a loving parent. Being a loving parent is representing the holy spirit by taking care of your kids and showing kindness and compassion. A loving parent is someone who cares for their kids and wants them to be happy, that is showing the holy spirit, by doing what Jesus would do.

I can show the holy spirit by showing, goodness, joy and being peaceful, patience and showing the fruits of the spirit.

This is the picture and the verse that we had to think of what would be a good picture to draw for the holy spirit. We did this is buddies and my buddy was Lauren. She drew the picture and I coloured in. The verse was Psalm 103:13.

The Values

Kia Ora!

In Room 6 we have brought back tokens. The tokens are different colours like Red, Yellow, Blue and Green. They all stand for one CERR value. Compassion - Red, Excellence - Yellow, Responsibility - Blue and Respect - Green. So basically we have to earn these tokens to get treats. If you are showing compassion then you get a red token, if you are showing excellence you get a yellow token, if you are showing responsibility or being responsible then you get a blue token and if you are showing respect then you will get a green token.

With these tokens you can get some treats from the CERR cafe in our class (this was only room 6). But you need the right ammount of tokens to get treats, so you can't just go give 1 token and ask for a treat because thats not how it works.

We also have these fruits of the holy spirit. When you are doing something good or just being respectful and look like you earn a fruit then you get one (their pictures). With a fruit you can get anything you want from the cafe.

If you get 20 tokens before week 12 then you can have a lunch with Mr. Norman. You don't get tokens for free you have to earn them if you want treats. Some of us made little oragami boxes for us to put in our tokens, so that they don't get lost.

The Tragedy | Pick a Path

Kia Ora!!

During lockdown we were put into groups for writing. We had our own doc with all the people in our group in it including the teacher. We had to plan or write a pick a path story. Based on a picture. This story is about three mice, a hedgehog and a snake. The main characters are the mice that are in danger of the snake. They do not trust anyone.
I found hard thinking of what the story was going to be about.
I found it easy to choose the choices for the stories. This is the form.

How To Become More Like Jesus

Kia ora!

For our R.E task we had to make a DLO. The DLO is about how to become more like Jesus.

We could use:
- Slideshow
- Biteable
- Piktochart
- Prezi

I used biteable to make this because it was easy to write in and it was just simple and fun. Also because its the one site that mostly is not laggy.

Become more like Jesus on Biteable.

Under the Bed - Writing

Kia ora,

While we are on lockdown, I checked the Home learning site. The task was for writing. We had to pick a prompt to write about. I went through the slide to look through the prompts and there was one prompt that I liked the most. It was called under the bed, and it looked like a fun writing prompt to do. So basically the task was to draw a picture in the readers head.
Here is my Writing:

The screeching sounds were so painful to Michael’s ears.
He managed to pull himself down to see what was under
his bed. As soon as he had his eyes under the bed, the
noise had stopped. Michael had one more good look under
the bed. He didn’t see anything, it was too dark under there.
He was too afraid to go under his bed.

He quietly got up back onto his bed. As he did slowly, he heard
a different noise this time. It was like something or someone was
trying to escape from under his bed. It was like a loud banging
noise. This time he was scared and wasn’t even able to look
down under his bed.

Michael put his covers over him and waited for the noise to stop.
Soon later, it was all quiet again. He came out from his covers and
played with his toys again. While he was playing with his toys, his
truck toy fell onto the ground.

He picked it up. As he picked up the truck, he saw bright, glowing, big
eyes, under his bed…..

Nutrition

In class last week we did this nutrition thing. It was where we learnt about the different type of food groups. Also we learnt about the healthy foods and the junk foods. After we learnt about that Sophie came in the next day and we walked to pak'nsave. We split into groups after when we got there and went into pak'nsave to look at the healthy foods and what is bad for us. The things we had to look for were Fat/Total, Sodium, Dietry Fibre and the sugars. Fat and sugar had to be less than 10g. The sodium had to be less than 400mg. The dietry fibre had to be more than 5g. If they weren't a good amount than it wasn't healthy. We had some papers that we had to tick if it was a everyday food, by finding out the ingredients and all of the quantity of how much the Fat/Total, Dietry Fibre, Sodium and the sugars. If they were good we would put a tick on our piece of papers, to know what is an everyday food and what is a somtimes food.

Here is my google drawing that I made of what I learnt from the Healthy and Sometimes Food:

Different Roles

In class for R.E we have been talking about what different roles we do at home, on any day. I did mine on a school day. We had to make a table and then write the times of the day and what ourselves, siblings and parents do. We could make it in any DLO, so I made mine in a googe drawings. I added in all the things I do and all the things that happen at home. I also put the times of the day that are usually used while I'm at home.

So we had to show what roles we do. I haven't added some in but sometimes I always have to clean my room and do the dishes. This is what my DLO looks like:

Strategy

In class we have been learning new and different startegies. We had to make a slideshow showing and teaching about what startegy we used and how to use it. There were two startegies that I have learnt so far. It was adding onto the numbers and using a number line. It wasn't that hard but not too easy at the same time. I found it easier to use the adding strategy more.

Here is my slideshow:

My Mascot

In class we have been reading some books about anzac stories. We had a task and it was to read into the articles that were on our class site and once we have read them or watched videos about them, we had to make a DLO informing people about anzac mascots. I made a slideshow because it was kind of easier to put all the information I learnt on there. After we finished that we had to make our own mascot. My mascot is mixed with a bird and a pig. I traced some pictures, so that I didn't have to put links in if I didn't use my own picture.

Here is my Slideshow:

Saint Maximillian Kolbe

We have been learning about Saint Maximillian Kolbe and Father Francis. There were videos and readings that we could learn from. I read the passage and it was kind of hard to understand but I got it in the end. In class we had to choose who (out of the two we learned about) we wanted to make a DLO about. I chose to make it about Saint Maximillian Kolbe.

When we got started on our DLO's I was using piktochart but then we also learned about what SISIMO meant. Sound, Sight and Motion.

When I tried voki at first, it was kind of fustrating because sometimes your work wasn't there so you had to start again. So I just stuck with making a piktochart.

Here is the piktochart:

Writing

WALT Use descriptive language

In class we are reading this book, it is called The Anzac Violin by Jennifer Beck. The illustrator is Robyn Belton. After we finished reading the book, we had to go to our desks and write a diary entry that is more exciting than the real diary entry.

We had to make a table and write in some descriptive words that would put a picture in our heads to let us see and imagine what the writing was about. The part that I am writing about is when Alexander had to get on the train. I ended it there.

We could use a thesaurus to make the words we wrote more exciting and to make our story more exciting and more descriptive. I used a thesaurus twice during my story because I had a look at my words and they were kind of boring so I wanted to change it.

So we were making a better diary entry to the one that we have read. We could be anyone in the story, I was Alexander.
Here is my Diary entry:

I stood there in shock, as I watched what was happening.
I heard footsteps, big loud ones. I turned around and there
was a shadow of a big man holding a gun. I went closer and
as I got closer the shadow had disappeared. I creeped
over towards a bunch of boxes. I hid as I heard the fear in
their screams.

It was a windy cool night. There were people hiding everywhere.
I heard engines roaring. As I walked away from the sound I saw beaming lights.
They were bright. I looked and saw that there were boats disappearing
into the distance.

I walked back to the sounds and away from the boats. I saw people
falling down as I walked towards the boxes.

I got back to the boxes. When I turned around I saw the same beaming
lights but they were coming closer. I looked around to see if I could go
hide somewhere else But it was too late.

The lights were close and they could see me. I tried running but they
caught me and yelled at me to stop.

I stopped, I was scared and didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know
who they were and if they were going to hurt me. These random
guys came and took me to a train. I had to get onto the train.

As the train sped, the gunshots were fading away. But every
time I think about this memory I can still hear screams from the horror.

Reading Activity- Charater Web- Roland Fish

Last week, my reading group (Mars) read a fiction story. It was named Roland Fish and it was about this bully that no one liked. Roland was the guy that didn't like the bully and so he finally stood up for himself and did something about the bully. The bullies name was Tim and everyone was scared of him because he had a sharp tongue. Not physically but like he would expose anyone for no reason so everyone would try to hide. So the activity was to make a Character Web about the main character (Roland) so I put in all the information that I could find out about Roland and wrote it down to remind me. I wrote down some information on Tim too.
Here is what I did:

Technology

Today we had Tech at Hornby High School. We have tech on Friday Mornings.

Today in tech we did a little bit of science and it was fun. The science teacher's name is Mr. Heath. He did this science thing where there is a big circle. And all those people in the circle have to hold hands. I watched because I didn't want to do it. Mr. Heath had this little box which can eletric shock you.

There were two people beside him and they were the ones that had to hold the two little cords. When Mr. Heath started starting the electricity people were saying that they could feel it, when they all broke hands the electricity stopped.

So we were learning that if you get electric shocked and you holding someones hand, it will flow through the both of you. There were some of people who got to try and do it without anyone else and their hands were shaking when they did it. Some were screaming.

That was the part I like most about tech.

We also designed some key rings. We got to pick our colours out of green and red and I picked red. At the end when I was finish my key ring didn't turn out well.

What I enjoyed: Watching them all do it.
What I found hard: I found hard joining in with them.
What I would do differently: I would try to join next time, or if it happens again.

This was the Year 7's first tech. (Including me)
