Matariki

Kia Ora!
In class we have been learning about matariki. We had 4 reading sites that we had to read and learn about matariki. Our task was to make a DLO and teach others about matariki and to compare the 4 sites to our DLO. We did this independently.

I made a powtoon and put in some information about matariki. The powtoon I made doesnt have any sound to it, but its ok! ;) Heres the link: Powtoon

Mahinga Kai

Kia Ora!

This week for our reading tasks in class, we have been learning about Mahinga Kai and Poha. Each of the 4 reading groups have different books to read and different topics. 2 groups read about Mahinga Kai, and the 2 other groups read about Poha. I read about Mahinga Kai.

Mahinga Kai is food that you can find around you, Lake, Forest, and anywhere with animals but Mahinga Kai is mostly from the sea. Mahinga Kai is food like some fish in the ocean. If the water keeps getting polluted there will be no more Mahinga Kai so we have to make sure that we do our part and keep the environment in a good state.

Here is a slideshow that I made:

The Holy Spirit

There is a picture that represents the holy spirit. It is of a family or birds and they are all taking care of each other. I can be the image of the holy spirit by taking care of others and caring for them, and making them feel like they are safe and not in any danger. I can also be that image for others in their lives by being a good friend and making sure they are ok.

The picture of the birds where the mother was feeding the baby birds shows the holy spirit by that mother bird being a loving parent. Being a loving parent is representing the holy spirit by taking care of your kids and showing kindness and compassion. A loving parent is someone who cares for their kids and wants them to be happy, that is showing the holy spirit, by doing what Jesus would do.

I can show the holy spirit by showing, goodness, joy and being peaceful, patience and showing the fruits of the spirit.

This is the picture and the verse that we had to think of what would be a good picture to draw for the holy spirit. We did this is buddies and my buddy was Lauren. She drew the picture and I coloured in. The verse was Psalm 103:13.

The Values

Kia Ora!

In Room 6 we have brought back tokens. The tokens are different colours like Red, Yellow, Blue and Green. They all stand for one CERR value. Compassion - Red, Excellence - Yellow, Responsibility - Blue and Respect - Green. So basically we have to earn these tokens to get treats. If you are showing compassion then you get a red token, if you are showing excellence you get a yellow token, if you are showing responsibility or being responsible then you get a blue token and if you are showing respect then you will get a green token.

With these tokens you can get some treats from the CERR cafe in our class (this was only room 6). But you need the right ammount of tokens to get treats, so you can't just go give 1 token and ask for a treat because thats not how it works.

We also have these fruits of the holy spirit. When you are doing something good or just being respectful and look like you earn a fruit then you get one (their pictures). With a fruit you can get anything you want from the cafe.

If you get 20 tokens before week 12 then you can have a lunch with Mr. Norman. You don't get tokens for free you have to earn them if you want treats. Some of us made little oragami boxes for us to put in our tokens, so that they don't get lost.
