The History of Chocolate!

 Kia Ora!

Yesterday was the World Chocolate Day - 7th of July. In class the first thing we went and learned about was the history of chocolate. It was a fun day yesterday for everyone in my class. We watched Charlie and the chocolate factory while drinking hot chocolate. It was all about chocolate. While we were working through some questions about the history of chocolate our teachers gave us some chocolate. After the movie we had to create our own lolly that would make people feel funny. We got to share our creations with the class. After lunchtime we had team building.

Here are some facts about the history of chocolate:

The first people that grew the cacao plant were the Olmecs of Mexico. They passed on their knowledge to the Ancient Maya of Mexico and Centeral America, who made a spicy drink out of chocolate.

Christopher Columbus was the first Euroepeon explorer to ever come in touch with cacao beans, this happened in 1502.

The first chocolate house was opened in London in 1657.

The first chocolate that was produced to eat happened in 1830.

For the team building we had to build the tallest and strongest tower with pasta and marshmellows. The tower had to be able to hold 3 crunchie bars off of the ground. This activity was really fun, my team had tried a lot of ways and in the end we made it happen. There were 30 pasta sticks and 6 marshmellows that each group had with a long piece of tape. Whoever won got to have the cruncie bars. My team came first with the tallest and strongest and it was just fun.

Student Summit 2021

 Kia Ora!

Today is the Student Summit! The stundent summit is when a bunch of schools from your cluster all gather together with something to share from each school. I was one of the presenters and I was presenting about book creator. Celine was one of the other presenters that helped me present. Each school presented a toolkit that would be helpful for us and our learning.

This first 2 sessions I was presenting. The other 2 I went to and learnt about other toolkits. Codey Rocky was one of them presented by South Hornby School. The codey rocky was really fun to learn about and exciting to code. The coding on codey rocky is the same as scratch and it is like a little robot that does what the coding blocks say. We used a ipad to code the codey rocky, it was a really cool toolkit.

The last session that I had was Animaker. Animaker was really good, it was presented by Yaldhurst Model School. On animaker was we got to play around with it and insert characters and change their positions. The presenters also showed us how to post an animaker video onto our blogs.

If you want to check out some of these toolkits here is a link

Winter Sports

 Talofa!

Last week our school started winter sports. We started walking a few mintues before 1pm towards Hornby High. The netball group and the soccer group walked together while the other groups walked after us. When we got to Hornby High we went our seperate ways.

We trained for a bit until our game started. We were playing netball by the way. The game was a really good game it was 7-3. We played against Hornby High. I really enjoyed it. We also had 2 players who didn't know the rules but they learned very fast.

Anzac

 Kia Ora!

In class for topic we have been learning about why animals are important in war and about life in the Trenches. These topics are both related to war. For this we went onto the sites that our teacher had out out for us. There were also videos we watched for the task. These videos were about animals in war and life in the Trenches. There was also a book to read about life in the trenches. In this padlet we had to link 2 sites that helped us learn.

The tasks were to create a newspaper article about why animals are important in war. The other task was to use Thinglink or Prezi to create a presentation about Life in the Trenches. We also learnt about John Simpson.

This is my Newspaper Article:

St. Bernadette Diary Entry

 Kia Ora!

In class we have been learning about St Bernadette. We have been doing research on her about what happened when she saw Mary. We watched videos of what happened and read on different sites about the information about what happened to St. Bernadette. Then we had a sheet that would help us with our digital work. On the sheet there were questions asking when St. Bernadette was born or when she died or her personality and traits and things that would help us with our diary entry or news paper.

For the task we had to create a news paper article or a diary entry. For the newspaper article you had pretend you were interviewing St. Bernadette and write down some facts too. It had to be like you were having a conversation with St. Bernadette about her visions. For the diary entry we had to pretend that we were St. Bernadette and write in a diary entry about what had happened to St. Bernadette. I did the Diary Entry.

This is my Diary Entry:

February 11th, 1858

Today, I had a vision of a lady, she looked young like teenage years and

she was wearing white clothing with a blue ribbon tied around her waist

with gold roses on both her feet.. When I saw her she didn’t say anything,

I started to pray the rosary as she joined me. My sister and friend were

getting wood and when they were finished I asked them if they saw anything

and they both said no. I told them what I saw and they promised to not tell anyone.

The next day there were newspapers with my name on them saying what I had seen.

My aunt took me back to the grotto, telling me to make sure the lady I saw in my

visions told me her name. There were more people there that time, they all watched

as I prayed the Rosary. She appeared, I pointed to where she was and nobody

saw anything. “There is no need to write down what I have to say,” she said.

She asked me if I would do her a favour and come back to this place for 14 days.

I told her with my parents permission I will do so. That same night my parents

gave me permission to go back to the grotto. I prayed the Our Father as everyone

did the same.

“Dear Lady, Would you be so kind to tell me your name” I repeated 2 more times.

The last day I asked her what her name was, she then answered,

“I am the Immaculate Conception.”

Easter Triduum

 Kia Ora!

In class we have been learning about holy week and the easter triduum. I am going to be sharing my art work with you all. For our task we had to write down what we knew about holy week on a padlet. For our task we had to draw something that was related to holy week. This task was very fun and not that easy to do. These pictures are combined so that when you look from one angle you see one picture and when you look from a different angle you see a different picture.

This is my drawing:

The Purpose Of a Blog Post

 Kia Ora!

For cybersmart we have been learning about the purpose of a blog post. There was a slideshow we worked through and there were activites to do. The task was to create a comic strip about what the purpose of a blog was. We also went on this site called flaticon which when you search for something like a character for example, a girl, it will show all these icons of girls. So we used that to help us with the comic strip.

This is my comic strip:
